Parents often ask us:
- “What is the difference between SCEF, SCCLCFA, and the PRT?”
- “Why should I donate to SCEF and SCCLCFA and the PRT?”
While each of these organizations collects funds to benefit SCCLC, there are significant differences in how the funds are collected and disbursed.
San Carlos Charter Learning Center Fundraising Association (SCCLCFA)
SCCLCFA is an independent, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that raises money to support our school at the site level. Funds from the SCCLCFA are used for classroom and library supplies, community events, playground and garden upkeep, the Milestone program, and general support for our school’s operating budget.
Each year, the SCCLCFA orchestrates our only major fundraising event, the CLC Wild West Chili Cook-Off. SCCLCFA’s fundraising capacity is capped at $100,000 per school year.
San Carlos Education Foundation (SCEF)
SCEF is a parent-led, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that raises money to support the seven San Carlos schools at the district level. Gifts from SCEF are used to grow and sustain many of CLC’s crucial programs, including Spanish, physical education, technology, numeracy support, professional development, and arts electives.
Gifts to CLC from SCEF are based upon student enrollment at the school level as a percentage of enrollment at the district level. This year, CLC will receive a consolidated grant of $246,472 from SCEF. This amount was calculated based on the number of students enrolled at CLC and is consistent with the per-student combined grants given to the other six schools in the San Carlos School District. CLC had 10.2% of total enrollment and received 10.2% of the annual SCEF disbursement. SCEF’s goal for 2014-15 is $2.4 million.
Parent Resource Team (PRT)
The PRT focuses on supporting our educators and building a strong school community through events such as parent socials and class parties. Although the PRT collects voluntary classroom funds at the beginning of each year, the PRT does not have any other fundraising responsibilities.
